I love the secret place. That one place you go to breathe. But if we’re going to talk about breathing and relaxing, then that means the secret place is yoga class or the beach. Honestly, it’s not truly about where you go. It’s to whom you go.
We as followers of Jesus go to Him. We sit at His feet, at the bottom of the Cross and interact with Him. Our rest, our breath is in the Lord.
I want to babble about the importance of a secret place. That place is where you no longer depend on someone around you such as a spouse, group bible study, or corporate church service, to think and speak for you. The relationship is real in the secret place because it is just you and Jesus. See, how you worship in the secret place is reflected in how you worship in the public place. Now, there is no specific style I am pinpointing here, but what matters is your heart. Is your heart true? Is it devoted and focused on God or do you just sway to the music? Do you hide behind zealous acts of worship or passion, but have a quiet, meek heart on the inside?
Psalm 32:7 says, “7 You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.”
I have always been geared towards travel. Towards change. Whether I fought it or pursued it, moving has always been a part of my life. My husband-to-be and I often dream and pray about our life together, in which we are confident we will move and travel all our lives. I grow weary sometimes of the change and lose my sense of rest and peace. I learned to pay attention to my spirit and asses if it is of the Holy Spirit or not. Despite all the change or perpetual longing of change that leads to lack of peace, I am reminded by the Lord when he says, “Your rest is in Me.”
Matthew 11:28-30 “28 “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 All of you, take up My yoke and learn from Me, because I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for yourselves. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
The one place you can always depend on to find rest is in the Lord. He longs for you to think about Him in the middle of the light and establish that intimacy. Talk with Him before you sleep, even and mediate in how good He is.
Psalm 4:4, 8 say “4 Be angry and do not sin;
on your bed, reflect in your heart and be still.
8 I will both lie down and sleep in peace,
for You alone, Lord, make me live in safety.”
There is endless peace offered in His presence! Be encouraged that when He died on the cross do you, He was the sacrificial Lamb who through his death allowed all people to approach the Throne of God boldly and with confidence. We no longer have to sacrifice. We don’t have to give up a prized cow, or sheep anymore. No longer do we have to wait a whole year for one priest to atone for our sins and ask for forgiveness. We can not only ask for ourselves, we can ask ALWAYS! He always forgives, always is open, and always loves us. He is passionate for us. So I not longer feel like I am required to have a “quiet time”, but now I long to steal away like my best friend Jesus, who set the perfect example of the secret place (Like Gethsemane and countless others).
The cultivating of the secret place is the growing of your relationship with the Lord. It may feel silly spinning around your house, suddenly shouting a praise or even talking verbally to the Lord, instead of just in your spirit, but really, do the things you do in public worship accurately reflect your heart in the secret place? Do you dance out there because you dance in the secret place?
Siblings, that place is pretty much the sweetest, most cherished place of all. You are your King’s and He is yours in tat quiet, still, loving place. The most gets done in the secret place. 🙂
I pray tonight that you will ask our Savior what He has to say about your secret place. Cause darn skippy you didn’t land here on accident. I guarantee He’s going to get some stuff straight with you. 🙂
Recieve rest tonight and be blessed in Jesus’ Name! 🙂
